"I showed this to my sis-in-law a couple of weeks ago. She’s South African by birth and lived there up until a few years ago when she met my brother. Her response to this was… let’s say impressive.
It mostly went along the lines of “Fucking hell, he’s lucky. Does he know how impossibly, stupidly fucking lucky he is?”
I’m like “Well, he probably has a reasonable idea…”
And she looked at me like I was a moron. “No, I mean… REALLY lucky. Like, angels-on-his-side degrees of lucky. By all rights when they get you where they’re going to shoot you, that’s IT. They shoot you. They don’t dither around. The fact that they didn’t even take them to an ATM first to make them get money out, that’s… I mean… eish… and then the boot? If they put you in the boot, you’re definitely gonna’ die. But then with everything else…? How is he still alive?”
I’m like… “I dunno how that works, maybe he really is just an achingly lucky bastard?”
She shook her head and read the thing again before making her conclusion. “Lucky, but a fucking moron. Who the hell drives at night when they’re up there? They tell you not to drive at night for a very, very good reason.”
And then she called him a lucky bastard a few more times before getting excited about Sherlock series 2 on DVD.!"
